3/10/03 – Guillaume Lefebvre, a 2003 3rd round pick and a 2004 second round pick to Phoenix for Tony Amonte.

Amonte may have only played parts of two seasons with the Flyers, but it could have been longer had not the 2004-05 season been cancelled.

Still, considering the Flyers didn’t give up a ton (the second round pick turned into Brandon Dubinsky, but the rest was just trade fodder) to get the high-scoring winger, it was worth it just for the 2004 playoff run alone.

Amonte was best friends with Jeremy Roenick, the Flyers star at the time, and putting them together on the Flyers paid instant dividends.

Amonte scored 15 points in 13 games after joining the Flyers and had a good playoff run in 2003 before the Flyers were eliminated by Ottawa in the second round.

However, in 2004, Amonte had a solid season posting 20 goals and 53 points playing with Roenick as the Flyers willed themselves to within one game of the Stanley Cup Finals before losing to Tampa Bay – without a full compliment of defensemen in the series.

Amonte may not have been an All-Star with the Flyers, and his time here was short, but his impact was stabilizing a scoring line for the team and getting them to make a deep run in the playoffs.
